Turn the page quickly.
Printed at the bottom right of a page (Turn quickly, or the Italian V.S.) where the next page follows without a break; it warns the player to turn at once.
Avoid quick turns in exposed passages; adjust the page layout so that turns fall at rests. If one is unavoidable, mark turn quickly and leave at least a beat of rest in the part so the turn costs no notes. In piano and chamber music, a fold-out page or a small cue of the next bars at the foot of the page lets the player keep going through the turn.
Turn quickly is one of 1755 terms in the Gradus musical dictionary: the words, abbreviations and instrument names that appear in printed scores, plus the vocabulary composers use to talk about them.
