Voice or part: the singing voice itself (mit halber Stimme, with half voice), a vocal or instrumental part (Singstimme, Oberstimme = upper voice), and in the plural, Stimmen, the set of performing parts.
Printed inside directions about vocal sound — “mit halber Stimme” (mezza voce), “mit verhaltener Stimme” — and in compound labels: “Singstimme” for the voice staff, “Oberstimme”, “Hauptstimme”. The plural “Stimmen” on a title page means the set of performing parts, as in “Partitur und Stimmen”.
Stimme appears on German-language parts and scores. Erste Stimme = first part. Zweite Stimme = second part. Understanding this helps when reading German editions of orchestral parts.
