Back in tempo.
Printed above the staff after a ritard. or a free passage, returning to the prevailing tempo; wieder (‘again’) marks it as a return, not a new tempo. It holds until the next tempo change.
Also spelled: wieder im Zeitmass
Back in tempo — the German a tempo. Use it after a rit. or a fermata to restore the established tempo. Like a tempo it does not specify which earlier tempo if several have occurred; in that case, Erstes Tempo or a metronome mark is safer.
Strauss, Heimliche Aufforderung, Op. 27 No. 3, voice, m. 52: “wieder im Zeitmass”, a bar after a pp, in a song headed “Lebhaft”.
Wieder im Zeitmaß is one of 1755 terms in the Gradus musical dictionary: the words, abbreviations and instrument names that appear in printed scores, plus the vocabulary composers use to talk about them.
