Not divided: the section plays together again.
Printed over a string part to end a divisi, or to forbid one where the notation (double stops, two notes per staff) might suggest it. It lasts until the next geteilt.
Nicht geteilt has two uses. After a divisi it restores unison, like unis. Over double stops it tells every player to play both notes rather than share them — a fuller, rougher sound. Be explicit, because orchestral players often divide double stops by default.
Mahler, Symphony No. 5, fifth movement (Rondo-Finale), cellos, m. 227: “nicht geteilt” at f, between sf accents.
Nicht geteilt is one of 1755 terms in the Gradus musical dictionary: the words, abbreviations and instrument names that appear in printed scores, plus the vocabulary composers use to talk about them.
