Lively, agitated in movement.
Usually a tempo-and-character heading at the start of a song or piece (Mouvementé), or comparative within it (un peu plus mouvementé). It lasts until the next tempo word.
Also spelled: mouvemente
Lively and full of motion, with a hint of agitation: it describes busy, restless movement rather than a fixed speed, close to the Italian mosso or agitato. Chausson heads “Serre chaude” with it. Choose it over animé when the restlessness of the figuration, not just the tempo, is the point.
Chausson, Serres chaudes, Op. 24, “Serre chaude”, voice and piano, m. 1: “Mouvementé”; a “Plus lent (grave)” arrives at m. 70.
Mouvementé is one of 1755 terms in the Gradus musical dictionary: the words, abbreviations and instrument names that appear in printed scores, plus the vocabulary composers use to talk about them.
