Decided, resolute.
Printed above the staff as part of a heading, often in parentheses beside its Italian equivalent (Deciso) or another German word (Bestimmt); it governs the passage until the character changes.
Decided, resolute — the German deciso. It asks for firm rhythm, clear attacks and no hesitation at phrase beginnings. Use it where the music must sound committed, for instance after a hesitant or questioning passage, and pair it with a tempo word, since it describes character rather than speed; bestimmt is a close synonym.
Cornelius, Trauer und Trost, Op. 3, “Trost”: the heading “Mässig langsam.” is qualified by “(Bestimmt, entschieden.)” and the Italian “(Deciso.)”, at mf.
Entschieden is one of 1755 terms in the Gradus musical dictionary: the words, abbreviations and instrument names that appear in printed scores, plus the vocabulary composers use to talk about them.
