Decisively.
Printed above a phrase, or in parentheses at a heading (“(Bestimmt, entschieden.)”), where the delivery should be firm and definite; it lasts until a new character word.
Decisive, definite, with clear intent — firm attacks, steady time, no hesitation. It is the German deciso, and entschieden is a near synonym; Cornelius prints the two together to underline the point. Use it after hesitant or teasing passages to snap the line back into focus.
Cornelius, Trauer und Trost, Op. 3, “Trost”, voice: the song opens with “(Bestimmt, entschieden.)”, beside the Italian “(Deciso.)” and “Mässig langsam.”
Bestimmt is one of 1755 terms in the Gradus musical dictionary: the words, abbreviations and instrument names that appear in printed scores, plus the vocabulary composers use to talk about them.
