At the fingerboard — the German equivalent of sul tasto.
Printed above the string staff in German scores as am Griffbrett or simply Griffbrett (Griffbr.), and in force until gewöhnlich or another bow-position word. Mahler uses the bare form, Griffbrett, in his Fifth Symphony.
The German instruction for bowing over the fingerboard, producing soft, flute-like tone. Common in Mahler, Strauss, and the Second Viennese School.
