Second function: decoration. The third and fifth step up to the fourth and sixth and return, on the weak beat, over a bass that never moves — the neighbour tone of two-voice counterpoint sounding in two voices at once. Nothing arrives and nothing leaves; a standing chord is ornamented.

At the keyboard

The three upper voices of the model realization fit under one hand. The left hand does nothing for three chords. Two right-hand fingers rise a step and settle back — that is the whole event. Carry it into C major, G major.
