Go on without a break.
Printed at the end of a movement or section (without pause, go on without a break) to tell performers to continue directly into what follows; it applies to that join only.
Also spelled: without break
The English attacca. Use it to link movements or sections when continuity matters more than a break — a slow movement that leads into a finale, a transition that should feel like one breath. Make the link clear in every part, and check that instrument changes, mute removal and retunings fit into the join; otherwise players will take a pause you did not intend.
Without pause is one of 1755 terms in the Gradus musical dictionary: the words, abbreviations and instrument names that appear in printed scores, plus the vocabulary composers use to talk about them.
