Very animated: with much motion and forward drive.
Printed as a heading or at a new section, often with a character word (Sehr bewegt und innig); it holds until the next tempo word. Some editions print an Italian equivalent beside it.
Very animated: plenty of motion and forward drive, which can become restlessness in a stormy song. It names movement more than speed, so the result depends on the figuration — a rippling accompaniment at Sehr bewegt may be quick, a slower harmonic rhythm less so. A metronome mark or a character word removes doubt.
Franz, Sechs Gesänge, Op. 6, “Auf dem Meere”, voice, m. 44: “Sehr bewegt und innig”, printed with “Allegro moderato”.
Sehr bewegt is one of 1755 terms in the Gradus musical dictionary: the words, abbreviations and instrument names that appear in printed scores, plus the vocabulary composers use to talk about them.
