Gently moving: a calm flow with soft edges, close to an andantino. Brahms uses it for lyrical songs whose accompaniment should rock rather than drive. Sanft stresses softness of sound and gesture more than tenderness of feeling (which is zart), so choose between the two according to what the performer must do.
