More emphasis, building the reinforcing push.
Printed below the staff as più rinforz., più rinf. or in full, usually soon after a rinforz. that it intensifies. Like rinforzando it applies to a short span; a new dynamic or a lighter direction (leggierissimo, dolce) ends it.
Abbreviations: più rinforz., più rinf.
Also spelled: piu rinforzando
A stacking word: it makes sense only after a first rinforzando, as the next stage of growing insistence. Liszt uses the pair to build a phrase in two steps before dissolving into something light. Keep the steps close enough for the listener to hear the connection, and mark where the intensification ends.
Liszt, “Waldesrauschen” (2 Konzertetüden, S. 145, No. 1), m. 28: “più rinforz.” follows “rinforz.” in the bar before and gives way to “leggierissimo” at pp a bar later.
Più rinforzando is one of 1755 terms in the Gradus musical dictionary: the words, abbreviations and instrument names that appear in printed scores, plus the vocabulary composers use to talk about them.
