Normal manner of playing.
Printed above the staff as normale or norm. at the point where a special technique ends. It cancels that technique and stays in force until the next one is marked.
Abbreviations: norm.
The plainest of the cancelling words, common in twentieth- and twenty-first-century scores where many techniques alternate. Use it to return from sul pont., sul tasto, flutter-tongue or other extended techniques. If your score already uses ord., stay with that, since mixing the words implies distinctions that do not exist.
Normale is one of 1755 terms in the Gradus musical dictionary: the words, abbreviations and instrument names that appear in printed scores, plus the vocabulary composers use to talk about them.
