With plates: cymbals clashed together.
Printed in the cymbal part to specify the pair of plates clashed together, as opposed to a stick on a suspended cymbal; it holds until another method is named. It often comes with an instruction about decay (“mit Tellern (klingen lassen).”).
With plates: the classic crash cymbals. Use it after passages for suspended cymbal to restore the clash, and specify klingen lassen or abdämpfen for the decay. The clash is bright and loud; very soft clashes are delicate to control, so for quiet cymbal colour a suspended cymbal with soft sticks is usually easier.
