Euphonium (English name).
Labels the euphonium staff, abbreviated Euph. Two notations coexist: bass clef at sounding pitch (orchestras and most American bands) and treble clef in B♭, sounding a major ninth lower (British brass bands). Orchestral tenor-tuba parts, such as Holst’s, are usually played on euphonium.
Abbreviations: Euph., Euph
A four-valve B-flat tenor tuba with a warm, round, singing tone and great agility, the cello of the brass band and a core voice of wind bands. In the orchestra it appears mainly through tenor-tuba parts. Write it melodic tenor lines and countermelodies, from about B-flat1 to B-flat4 and above, and state in the part which clef convention you are using.
Euphonium is one of 1755 terms in the Gradus musical dictionary: the words, abbreviations and instrument names that appear in printed scores, plus the vocabulary composers use to talk about them.
