Somewhat more animated; a little faster (= poco più mosso).
Printed above the staff at the start of a slightly livelier section, sometimes with an Italian equivalent (Un poco più mosso, Poco più moto) beside it; it holds until the next tempo word.
A small push of motion, the German poco più mosso — enough to lift a middle section or a returning phrase without changing its character. Mahler and Schumann use it often. Pair it with a way back (Wie zu Anfang, Tempo I), and use werdend (etwas bewegter werdend) if the push should be gradual.
Mahler, Kindertotenlieder, No. 3, “Wenn dein Mütterlein”, voice, m. 19: “Etwas bewegter”, printed with “Un poco più mosso”, after a pp.
Etwas bewegter is one of 1755 terms in the Gradus musical dictionary: the words, abbreviations and instrument names that appear in printed scores, plus the vocabulary composers use to talk about them.
