End.
Printed at the close of a piece, act or section (Ende, or a phrase such as Ende des ersten Teiles), or in a part to mark where a cut or repeated section finishes. It marks a point, not a duration.
Ende is informational: it confirms where the music stops, which matters in multi-section works, in parts with repeats and da capo structures, and wherever an ending is not obvious from the final barline. On a da capo, Fine or Schluss marks the stopping point; Ende more often simply closes the whole work or section.
Ende is one of 1755 terms in the Gradus musical dictionary: the words, abbreviations and instrument names that appear in printed scores, plus the vocabulary composers use to talk about them.
