The pitch that actually sounds, as opposed to the transposed pitch written for a transposing instrument. Also the standard tuning reference, today usually A = 440 Hz.
Decide whether your full score is transposed or in concert (C) pitch, and say so on its first page; many modern scores are written in C, but the parts must still be transposed for the players. Know each transposing instrument’s range in both written and sounding pitch. In rehearsal, saying ‘concert B-flat’ removes any doubt about whether you mean the note a clarinettist reads or the note that sounds.
Concert pitch is one of 1755 terms in the Gradus musical dictionary: the words, abbreviations and instrument names that appear in printed scores, plus the vocabulary composers use to talk about them.
