With energy.
Printed beside the dynamic, often f, or attached to a tempo word in a heading. It sets the manner of attack for the passage and holds until a new character direction; energico is the one-word equivalent and appears in the same places.
Con energia asks for vigorous attack and firm rhythm — decisive, driving playing rather than simply louder or faster. Use it where the rhythm needs muscle, especially at the start of an Allegro or a forceful entry. It overlaps almost completely with energico, so choose one and keep to it within a work, and add accents or marcato where particular notes must bite. German composers write mit Energie or energisch.
Con energia is one of 1755 terms in the Gradus musical dictionary: the words, abbreviations and instrument names that appear in printed scores, plus the vocabulary composers use to talk about them.
