The brass as a group.
German for the brass section as a whole, found in directions, footnotes and instrument lists rather than as a staff label; musicians often shorten it to Blech. Each brass staff keeps its own name — Hörner, Trompeten, Posaunen, Tuba.
Also spelled: Blechblaeser
Reach for it when one instruction serves every brass player — a mute change, a collective dynamic, raised bells. Brass balance is rarely uniform, though: four horns and three trombones at the same marking are not the same weight, so a section-wide dynamic may still need adjusting part by part. Name the instruments when you mean only some of them.
Blechbläser is one of 1755 terms in the Gradus musical dictionary: the words, abbreviations and instrument names that appear in printed scores, plus the vocabulary composers use to talk about them.
