Fairly animated.
Usually a tempo heading at the start of a piece or section, often extended with character words (Assez animé et très rythmé; Assez animé, léger, gai). It lasts until the next tempo word.
Also spelled: assez anime
Fairly animated: lively and moving, but short of the drive of animé. It is a favourite French heading for music whose energy lies in rhythm and colour. Pair it with the character you want, since animé alone covers anything from playful to restless, and remember that assez is “rather”, not assai (“very”).
Lili Boulanger, D’un matin de printemps, piccolo, m. 1: “Assez animé, léger, gai” heads the score.
Assez animé is one of 1755 terms in the Gradus musical dictionary: the words, abbreviations and instrument names that appear in printed scores, plus the vocabulary composers use to talk about them.
