The seventh enters as the doubled root steps down — the mildest of entries — and at once the chord is restless: the F owes a fall the triad did not. At the resolution every obligation pays at once: seventh down, leading tone up by license into the fifth, and the tonic chord is complete.
The three upper voices of the model realization fit under one hand. Watch the tenor: G falls to F as the figure 7 appears, then F falls to E as the harmony changes. Two steps down, each one demanded. Carry it into G major, F major.
