The same engine as the major chain, running down minor’s natural descent: the alto’s resolution over each bass tone is held to become the seventh against the next. Not one accidental until the chain has spent itself — then the dominant takes its sharp and closes the line the chain set in motion.
The three upper voices of the model realization fit under one hand. The chain lives in the alto here — the middle finger holds and falls while the soprano floats above it. Chains do not need the top voice to be heard. Carry it into D minor, E minor.
