Any caller-supplied option override to the public Notation API's Verovio renderer must disable automatic breaking ONLY when paired with an explicit, content-derived break-insertion mechanism — never bare

Verovio's `breaks: 'auto'` with a fixed `pageWidth` is professionally-correct default behavior — automatic re-breaking to a known page width. Overriding to manual/encoded breaking is legitimate ONLY when the caller has independently computed and inserted the actual break points into the document (e.g. explicit `<print new-system="yes">` markers) — an override that disables auto-breaking WITHOUT supplying real break points reproduces the 'one giant unbroken system' hazard this whole chapter exists to prevent.

This rule protects Verovio's own correct default (Verovio documentation, `breaks: 'auto'` performs automatic line/page breaking to fit given page dimensions) — the convention being protected (never let notes overrun a barline/page edge; prefer re-breaking) is the same one cited throughout this chapter (Ross, Gould). CORRECTION to a prior draft of this rule: an audit of actual call sites shows the ONE existing override is legitimate, not a hazard by itself (see detection).

This rule can be decided from pitches, durations and voices — no layout required. A validator can check it before anything is drawn.
