Gradus GE-134 · cite this code — it is permanent. Rule id expr-rehearsal-mark-sequence
Rehearsal letters/numbers (A, B, C… or 1, 2, 3…) increase monotonically through the score with no duplicate and no skipped-then-reused letter.
Measure 20 has `rehearsalMark: "C"`, and a later measure 45 also has `rehearsalMark: "C"` (duplicate), or measure 60 has `rehearsalMark: "B"` positioned AFTER a measure already marked "D" earlier in the piece (reversal).
Gould, Behind Bars, ch. Rehearsal Marks — sequential, unambiguous labeling is the entire point of the device.
This rule can be decided from pitches, durations and voices — no layout required. A validator can check it before anything is drawn.
